about

‘The Swarm’ released 29th July 2016 on Anamorphic Recordings.

Spree was conceived by Simon Sheldon and Suzanne Savage back in 2001 Spree’s debut release on the stellar Aspect Records and further releases on the likes on New Identity Recordings have received plays and praise from the likes of DJ SS, LTJ Bukem and Ray Keith and the track Watari released on Basic Records won track of the week on the then fledgling BBC1Xtra and soon spree became a rising force within the alternative dance music scene.

Spree’s first live gig supporting London Elektricity in 2002 was when Antoine Rivoire introduced himself to Simon & Suzanne and soon after joined the band on bass, followed shortly after by DMC champion Karl F and the foundations where set for a ‘full live’ act which in 2003 were voted in the last three of the Best Live act category of the Knowledge Magazine Awards, up against London Elektricity and I Kaman chi.

Spree Live are characterized by influences of Nu Jazz, d’n’b, gritty vocals, old school piano breaks, tight drum programming, improv jazzid horns and turntablist hocus pocus. Spree live have performed in support mode alongside the likes of Lee Scratch Perry, Roni Size, Jazzanova, Kosheen, Daara J and Giles Peterson and headlined events across Europe, Asia and the USA, as well as playing the highly regarded SXSW festival and on the Jazz World Stage at Glastonbury alongside acts such as Amy Winehouse, Michael Franti, and the Quantic Soul orchestra.

Although Sprees music contains elements of Jazz, Hip Hop, Drum n Bass and Dub it is beyond categorization. Each track on the ‘Swarm LP’ is a unique sonic experience, which is shaped by the diverse and varied range of performers who appear on the album. These artists have fashioned the tracks into individual soundscapes and all leave their own distinct mark on this exceptional representation of Irish Electronica.
